Club News:
This area is for recent club information and exciting news that
will be covered in depth in the Newsletter or the Secretary's Report:
-
Cowboy Fast Draw Comes to Blue Hill!
The Blue Hill Rifle & Pistol Club
has become the first club in New England to offer Cowboy Fast Draw. This is not your Father’s fast draw!
"CFD" is very different from the fast draw competitions that started in the 50’s and 60’s.
It uses “stock” 45 caliber single action pistols and holsters. Tricked out and modified guns and holsters are strictly forbidden.
Ammunition is a wax bullet propelled by either a shotgun primer or a minimal powder
charge. CFD has an accuracy component as well as speed.
The wax bullet has to hit a 24 inch steel circle to score and stop the timer.
We hope to have the Cowboy Fast Draw set up at the next monthly club meeting, and definitely plan on having it at the club’s Fall Shoot
in October. For more information on CFD, go to www.cowboyfastdraw.com
- The Blue Hill Rifle and Pistol Club is
moving toward affiliation with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP).
There is a committee working this and they are making significant progress
toward offering this exciting new program to club members. You
can find out more information about the CMP at: http://www.odcmp.com/
- The gun club now has certified Maine
Hunter Safety Course instructors. They are working on
scheduling a hunter safety course to be conducted this summer at the
club. If interested in attending or having information
provided, contact Chris Kravitt using the information below, or Paul
Judkins at 348-6458.
Club Facilities:
The Blue
Hill Rifle and Pistol Club maintains an indoor small-bore and center-fire handgun
range as well as an outdoor range for trap and two 100 yard ranges for rifle or
pistol shooting. Our facilities are well maintained and family-use
oriented in order to best support our members as well as the community we are a
part of. The Club supports the local community through marksmanship
and safety training courses for various organizations including the 4-H and
soon, the Boy Scouts Of America. The Club is proud of its tradition
of community support and always looks for additional avenues to increase safe
and responsible firearms use.
